Cyient Enable a US Telecommunication to extend its footprint across markets with FTTH technology

Our customer is a voice, broadband, VoIP, MPLS, and managed services provider to businesses in the US. As part of its growth strategy and Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF) program to bring fixed broadband and voice service to millions of unserved homes and small businesses in rural America, Our customer wanted to expand its fiber network footprint across multiple markets by providing next-generation telecom services. Their strategy was to deploy a fiber optic network to its residential customers in rural areas and small- and medium-sized enterprises. The company intended to leverage Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTh) network technology. With a strategic focus on rolling out state-of-the-art FTTh technology in the shortest period, our customer wanted to engage an established and experienced partner with technical expertise in planning and designing FTTx networks and has a framework to execute the planning and design.

Our Solution

Cyient leveraged the FTTx life cycle methodology to help our customer with its FTTh strategy.
The solution included:

  • Analyzing the existing copper network and designing the FTTh network
  • verification and validation of all addresses in the potential customer list
  • Prepare a detailed design to provide fiber optic connectivity to the customer’s geographic address via a splice from the feeder.
  • Reducing the construction cost by proposing the following technical solutions:
    • Identifying the shortest path to reduce the length of duct and fiber cable
    • Plan the distribution network to the customer geographical address using defined architecture like Cascaded Split Architecture, Indexed Split Architecture and Tap Architecture
    • Avoid unwanted street, rail, and water crossings.
  • Preparation of construction package and upload to their enterprise portal.
  • Creation of Permit drawing to submit county/DOT approval
  • Creation of Traffic control plans
  • Preparation and monitoring of the bill of quantity and bill of materials to assess construction costs.
  • Re-draft the approved design to their central GIS system, 3-GIS

The Outcome

An optimized FTTh network deployment plan and design helped the customer with:

  • Reduce network construction costs to a significant extent.
  • Reduced FTTh rollout timelines across states in USA.
  • Established Internet connectivity to rural area.
