Hyderabad, India, 22 June 2015 - The Cyient Foundation (the CSR arm of Cyient Ltd.) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) today with the Telangana state government to introduce the Swachh Telangana-Swachh Pathashala campaign. Aligned with the Swachh Bharat program introduced recently by the government of India, the Swachh Telangana-Swachh Pathashala campaign will provide water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) facilities in 54 government schools, impacting more than 18,000 students in Lingampally Mandal in Ranga Reddy District, Telangana. The initiative goes beyond the 11 schools currently adopted by the Cyient Foundation, and will be replicated further in other mandals subsequently.

Mr. BVR Mohan Reddy, Founder and Trustee, Cyient Foundation said, "Caring for and supporting the society is one of the fundamental values at the Cyient Foundation. We are delighted to participate in the Swachh Telangana-Swachh Pathashala initiative to help school children in our neighbourhood gain access to WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene), which is a fundamental human right and essential to life, health and dignity. We are committed to this mission and are inviting other corporate entities to join us to create a bigger and more inclusive impact on our society."

Union Urban Development Minister Shri Venkaiah Naidu on 5 January 2015 nominated Mr. BVR Mohan Reddy as a brand ambassador of Swachh Bharat campaign from Telangana, and Mr. Reddy took a pledge to make government schools in Hyderabad Swacch Pathashalas.

The key initiatives introduced as part of the Swachh Telangana-Swachh Pathashala include the following:

Build new toilets where needed

  • Renovate old not-in-use toilets and make them usable
  • Establish water supply and provide supplies to clean the toilets
  • Appoint and fully subsidise the cleaning staff cost in all 54 government schools in Lingampally Mandal
  • Provide continuous support of the activities mentioned above and drive more girl student enrollment
  • Bring together like-minded corporations to take the Swachh Pathashala initiative to many more mandals

Cyient spearheads its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives through the Cyient Foundation. Since its inception almost 15 years ago, the Cyient Foundation (formerly, Infotech Enterprises Charitable Trust) has conceptualized and enabled various social initiatives, including the adoption of government schools, supporting underprivileged children. The Cyient Foundation also adopted Andhra Polytechnic College in Kakinada, supporting students pursuing their diploma as well as providing employment opportunities to meritorious students every year. The foundation aims to facilitate access to quality education, participate in projects with business-aligned social innovation, and invest in environmental development projects.
