Continuous intraocular pressure monitoring can provide valuable data beyond clinic hours, but integrating monitoring technology into a contact lens creates significant constraints around power, size, precision, and wireless data transmission. Without space for a traditional battery, enabling continuous monitoring requires an ultra-low-power architecture designed specifically for the smart lens environment.
This case study shows how Cyient’s AnSem team engineered a custom ASIC for a Swiss medical device microsystems designer, enabling continuous IOP monitoring through an RF-powered, battery-less smart contact lens. By integrating MEMS sensing, high-precision data conversion, and wireless transmission to an external recorder, the solution enabled 24x7 real-life monitoring, high-fidelity data output, and continuous pressure data to support better-informed clinical decisions.
