Ramesh Abhishek is an eminent reformer and retired from the Indian Civil Services in 2019. He comes with a rich experience of over 37 years having played leading roles in governance, public policy, competitiveness, regulatory and judicial reforms, policy design and implementation, intellectual property rights, investment promotion and facilitation, and institution building, among many others. His last role was as the Secretary to the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DIPP), and he was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the US-India Business Council.
Ramesh is credited with creating several world-class government initiatives and campaigns such as Make in India and Start-Up India. He played a vital role in developing Invest India to strengthen the investment promotion efforts of the country, which resulted in FDI inflows of $205 billion. Furthermore, he was instrumental in improving India’s rank in the World Bank Ease of Doing Business Index, facilitating a 67-rank jump within a span of three years.
Over the course of his career, Ramesh has held several key postings, implemented the National IPR Policy, 2016, and, together with the World Intellectual Property Organization, launched the Global Innovation Index 2019 in India.
Ramesh holds a Master’s degree in International Politics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, a Master of Business Administration from Sikkim Manipal University, and a Master of Public Administration from Harvard Kennedy School.
