Rail Electrification – Overhead Lines Engineering

Overhead lines (OHL) or catenary wires are wires suspended from masts, portals, structures or tunnel ceilings and are used to supply power to run locomotives and electrical multiple units. Cyient offers comprehensive solutions for the entire life cycle of rail electrification projects-from FEED and conceptual planning to actual commissioning of the project.

Our OHL engineering services include:

  • Conceptual planning support – new and existing-built railways: Load calculations, general power supply arrangement plans, preliminary sectioning diagrams, sizing calculations and material planning
  • Design support: Sectioning diagrams, loading calculations, pegging plans, mast and dropper schedules, cantilever design, structural erection drawings, simulation studies, cross-section drawings for stations and depots, earthing and bonding layouts, BOM
  • Installation: Gang planning, time scheduling, CMV and wiring, train movement planning, bonding and earthing activities, erection of cantilevers, super masts and other equipment on masts and portals
  • Post-installation support: SED checking, as-built drawings, maintenance manuals
